The Brisbane Barmies, a local community group born out of a famous UK cricket fanbase, has once again demonstrated the power of community, raising an impressive $55,109 at their annual Golf Day. This milestone sets a new record for the group, who have now raised over $150,000 in total through their various initiatives.
144 players participated in the Golf Day event, which was generously sponsored by Steve Baker from Harcourts Solutions and supported by the Harcourts Foundation. The result wasn’t just a day of camaraderie and networking; it culminated in a cheque presentation to a cause close to their heart: Richie’s Rainbow Foundation.
Steve Baker, a Harcourts Solutions real estate agent and an active member of the Brisbane Barmies, commented, “It is a privilege to be part of such a powerful community and contribute to a great cause, making a real difference.” Mr Baker’s connection to Richie’s Rainbow Foundation founder runs deep, rooted in a shared origin in Manchester, UK.
The Brisbane Barmies, who are celebrating nine years as a dedicated community group, have consistently exceeded expectations with their fundraising efforts. Their inaugural Golf Day in 2015 raised $3,000, and the event has grown exponentially over the years, with this year’s record-setting $55,109 total marking a pinnacle of success. Beyond the Golf Day, they have raised significant funds for various causes, strengthening their mission of impact within their local community.
Mr Baker, a major sponsor of this year’s Golf Day continues, “Before I knew it, my office, Harcourts Solutions, got on board, as well as the Harcourts Foundation! The result was not only a great day of golf and fantastic networking opportunities but, importantly, a big cheque presentation to Richie’s Rainbow Foundation.” (pictured).
What's my home worth?
“It was phenomenal to meet George, Roger, and the team behind Brisbane Barmies. Thank you for the opportunity to be part of such an incredible event and cause.” remarked Etienne Labuschagne, Sales Director at Harcourts Solutions, who played on the day.
“We were proud to represent Harcourts at such a momentous event.”
The Brisbane Barmies originated as a local chapter of England’s world-famous Barmy Army, bringing together cricket fans and community advocates for both camaraderie and charity. What started as a small offshoot of cricket fandom has flourished into a powerful force for change, underlining the group’s motto of turning passion into action, organising events and fundraisers to give back to local communities while uniting cricket and charity enthusiasts.
Over the years, the group has supported numerous special causes and consistently exceeded fundraising expectations through events such as their annual Golf Day, which has become a marquee occasion for the community.
